Hi guys, sorry I didn't get around to posting last week; I was resting as I had a sore throat. This week's energy theme has been about balance. One of the things I've witnessed a lot in the healing arena over the years is the extremes people go to in regards to holistic versus traditional medicines. I am a huge believer that we need to honour both, and that when honouring ourselves on a mind, body and soul level, we may require different therapies for each. I'll use myself as an example... I recently worked through some jaw pain due to grinding my teeth at night. I booked a session with my trusted metaphysical practitioner to address the root emotional and spiritual cause, and I paid a few visits to my dentist to get a mouthguard.
You are a spiritual being having a physical experience. And your body requires physical support. When you are processing emotional and spiritual pieces you may require a physical purge. My sore throat was just that, a necessary physical clearing. All of us process differently; some gently, barely aware of it; and others aggressively, physically ill because of it. You're bound to experience both ends of the spectrum at some point during your journey. My first instinct is always to fight the cold. With my sore throat, I felt the tickle coming on and said, "I won't get sick, I'll beat this!", and I upped my regular intake of vitamins and oil of oregano. But last week was a great reminder that our bodies sometimes require the downtime if we are working through a big piece and they may need to physically expel it. So rather than fight it, sometimes we need to surrender to it.
One of the things I get feisty about is when people have a completely negative attitude towards traditional doctors and medicine. I understand where these feelings come from; I've been repeatedly let down by doctors that I've trusted. But I've also experienced the blessings of modern medicine that are keeping my brother alive, and am eternally grateful for the dedication, commitment and care it takes for a doctor, such as the surgeon who ultimately saved my brother's life, to do their job well. We have mental, emotional, physical and spiritual selves. All of these selves needs to be honoured. I am someone who embraces holistic therapies, traditional therapy, AND modern medicine. It's all about interconnectedness, and part of healing is about celebrating all the different spokes that make the wheel. And all of the different strengths that unite and celebrate what healing is.
This week asks you to remember that there are many valuable methods of healing and support available to you. And self-love means not saying no to any of them, but going within to honour the one that best serves you at the time, which, in most cases, will be a combination of all at various points. Embrace all the support available to you, and don't deny your physical body by putting pressure on your spiritual self. Simultaneously support all your selves for optimal healing.
